Bangladesh Export Earnings Rise 6% to $17.04 Billion in July-October

Bangladesh export earnings grew 6 percent to $17.04 billion in the first four months of the 2026-27 fiscal year, up from $16.08 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to Bangladesh Bank data released on 1 November. That is roughly $960 million more than last year.

Garments drove the increase. Knitwear exports, which include items such as T-shirts and polo shirts, rose 7 percent to $7.71 billion. Woven garments, such as shirts and trousers, climbed 4.8 percent to $6 billion. Together the two segments made up nearly 80 percent of all exports and about 81 percent of the growth.

Several other sectors also gained. Jute and jute goods rose 23.8 percent to $383 million, and leather and leather products grew 12.7 percent to $464 million. Chemical products jumped 27.3 percent to $157 million. Home textiles were up 7.4 percent and footwear 9.7 percent.

Not every sector shared in the rise. Agricultural exports fell 13.5 percent, frozen and live fish dropped about 11 percent, and cotton and cotton products slipped about 10 percent. These declines held back overall growth.

Bangladesh export earnings are the country’s largest source of foreign currency, used to pay for imports and support reserves. The heavy reliance on garments is a risk, since the industry has faced worker unrest over wages in recent days. Keeping Bangladesh export earnings on this path in the coming months will depend on stable factory output and steady orders from overseas buyers.
