Dengue Kills 9 More in Bangladesh as 1,982 Hospitalised in 24 Hours

Dengue killed nine more people in Bangladesh in the 24 hours to 8 am on Wednesday, 28 October, and 1,982 new patients were admitted to hospitals, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its daily bulletin. The count covers the period from 8 am Tuesday to 8 am Wednesday.

Dengue cases in Bangladesh were highest in Dhaka division, which recorded 816 new admissions. Chattogram division followed with 313, Rajshahi with 217, Khulna with 214 and Barishal with 194. Rangpur reported 116 admissions, Mymensingh 84 and Sylhet 28. The Daily Star reported that six of the nine deaths were in Dhaka division, with one each in Chattogram, Khulna and Rajshahi.

Since the start of the year, 130,219 people have been admitted to hospital with dengue. Of these, 123,605 have recovered and been discharged, while 6,205 patients are still receiving treatment in hospitals across the country. The latest deaths take the toll for 2026 to 409.

With dengue cases in Bangladesh close to 2,000 admissions in a single day, health authorities are repeating the standard advice. People should destroy places where mosquitoes breed and clear any stagnant water around homes, offices and construction sites. Anyone who develops a fever or other dengue symptoms should see a doctor without delay instead of waiting for the illness to worsen, because early treatment gives patients the best chance of recovery.

Dengue cases in Bangladesh are reported every morning by the DGHS, and its daily figures remain the clearest guide to how the outbreak is moving.
